Welholme Junior School

Welholme Junior School is located in the centre of Grimsby, home to the UK’s fishing and frozen food industries. The school has 350 pupils, a large number of whom are on the SEN register; nevertheless Welholme manages to maintain exceptionally high educational standards, recently achieving an “Outstanding” Ofsted report.

Head Teacher Nigel Parish is the school’s driving force. Nigel firmly believes that pupils at Welholme should receive the best possible education and supports that by providing the best tools. When Nigel saw a Riso colour printer in use at a nearby school, he was quick to advocate change, even though the school already had modern photocopiers.

Wendy Hanslip, the school’s Bursar, picks up the story “We had only recently purchased two new photocopiers but the Head was impressed with the quality and versatility of the Riso. With Riso’s help – the Riso has a much lower colour page cost – we were able to replace the copiers with a Riso colour printer.”

The Riso is used to add colour to newsletters, notices and letters, as well as learning aids like worksheets, SAT papers and spelling books. Commenting on the newsletter Wendy said “Now it is in colour, we add more photos which the children love. Things stand out better in colour. There’s more interest. We don’t find newsletters fluttering down the street anymore.”

Jill Cornier, the School Resource Manager, is responsible for producing much of the school’s printing and copying. Jill is impressed with the speed of the Riso.
“The speed is far far better than anything we’ve had before; much faster than the old copiers.” Speed is important because as Jill explained, she has to have print ready for collection by 9am!

Welholme’s Riso not only prints and copies in colour at 120 pages a minute, it folds and staples too, saving Jill a great deal of work. “We used to hand fold and staple booklets. The Riso does it all for us. We produce booklets for French and for Spelling. The teachers love them.”
